My Guppy Gave Birth! But Is She Going To Have More?

My guppy had fry while I was asleep! I wish I could have watched!

She had them in my breeder tank I set up. I woke up and watched her trying to eat her own fry and put her in a breeder box in my main tank in case she is going to have more. She is still quite large, with a gravid spot, looks dark when I look at her from above too.

Its been 24 hours now and she still hasn't gave out more fry.

Is she finished or should I leave her in there for a while longer?

Congrats on your fry how many has she had?
It's possible she could have more,you may have stressed her by moving her,i wouldn't leave her in a trap to long.

Thanks! Sorry, I missed that critical part out of my original post.

To my count so far she has had 8. But they are in a 10 gallon tank with plants, so i'm finding it hard to count them!

Would you say it was normal for them to have more after 24 hours?

The fry are probably in hiding

If she had only just started and you moved her,its possibly she may drop some more in a few days,i had a female starting to drop so i trapped her she had 2,but didn't drop again until 5 days later

So it might be best to let her out and catch any fry,

She may well have finished anyway.

I am worried about letting her out though, as my main tank has alot of community fish which would love a tasty snack of guppy fry! And I can't let her out in my breeder tank as she'll eat the already existing fry.

Why don't you catch the fry from the tank and put in the breeding trap for now,put the female into the breeding tank,then if she has more then great if not you can put her back in the main tank
