My experiment with the green moscow x blue diamond guppy is about to begin after receiving some great advice.
The blue diamond trait is supposed to be Y-Linked (carried by the male) so I'm going to attempt to create an X-Linked
version through a cross over since the moscow is also Y-Linked, and then breed back the female to a Moscow male.
Following the advice of a expert on guppy genetics once I find an X-Linked female I will also do a test cross with another
female to see the difference

Did you just learn genetics in science lately??? lol hahahaha (I just learnt them a while ago and have a slight understanding as to what you are talking about, but i got lost a quarter of the way through lol!)

Would be interesting to see your results though!

  yep i understand that, which is the male and female? moscow or diamond?
i would like to see these new moscow X guppy when in full colour, your looking at a nice diamond moscow.eventually that will have blue/green full body with the diamond tail, yeah? im just getting to grips with guppy genetics so is that your desired effect.

Yea, thats the desired result. The male will be the moscow and once i find a female that x-linked I will cross them Ill post pics of my project once it gets further along

:hyper:

Best of luck with that...from my own experience in studying biochemistry and cell biology which focuses on Genetics to some extent I can tell ya that you could be waiting years for this to happen correctly. Crossovers occur randomly between the chromosomes and to get the right crossover expecially when your looking at a specific gene the frequency of this type of crossover will be low, and of course the frequency of crossover will depend on where in the chromosome the gene is located. So do you know where it is located?

I'd love to know the intricate details of what you plan on doing and how your going to be able to tell if your crossover using your test cross is successful.

This stuff is fun!! :) Really bringing science to your home!! :)

with the base genetic colour being blue or green(mutated blue) on both fish then the fry should have this genetic structure, if not defo genotypes of this.
