Hi to all,
I am a newbie to this fantastic site so Hello to all. :good:

I kept fish a while ago but gave it up as I was nursing my dad and didn't have the time it needed, I have not long started keeping fish again. I have a tank with guppies, and neons in it. One of my guppies is/was pregnant she was when I bought her which was just over 2 weeks ago then last night she became static, staying round the filter, and keeping herself to herself, Oooooo I thought the time has come, I got her out put her in the nursery tank and within 10 minutes she had ... an egg! huh I thought this was followed by maybe 10 more, this was about 1.30 this morning, I went to bed got up early this morning and found nothing
She seemed fine and as nothing was happening put her back in the big tank with her tank mates. she is still fat although maybe not quite as big as she was and still has her dark gravel spot can someone tell me what is happening to my girl.
any answers greatfully received as I have never kept guppies before.

many thanks dee.

Hi.

Looks like she gave birth to premature babies. I guess the stress of being in trap made her have like a miscarriage. Where so called "eggs" like white with little black dots. If so they where premature fry. I say next time let her have them naturally just put some good cover in the bottom of the tank. Remember only the strongest survive. Good Luck! ^_^

or, if you want you could set up a small but heavily planted aquarium, it doesn't have to be any bigger than about 10 litres, yet no smaller than 8 litres. I did exactly this this with my mother platy and guppy(both at different times) and all babies were fine. I removed the mother when she looked very thin and much more active and then removed the plants. Hey presto! 25 fry. I fed them liquifry (the one for livebearers) and still am raising them today. I only put a small air powered filter inside that does not suck up the babies yet cleans the tank. ive kept at about 28C. Good luck! :good:

Hi thanks for replys,

The eggs were like little round balls and were a pale cleary yellow colour and I didn't see any black dots in them. I didn't put her in a trap, I put her in a separate tank that I have set up as a nursery tank for when I have fry it has a plant and some marbles in the bottom and a small filter. Also she is still rounded and her gravid spot is still there and dark does that mean she still has babies to come out?

I dont think ill move her next time the tank is quite well planted so may well just let nature take its course. Just wanted reasurance to know that shes ok realy, shes not fancy or anything just plain brown with a black tail but she was my first guppy.

thanks again dee.
