I need to know how I can get her to stop being so broody though. She lays eggs every couple of months or so and destroys the tank every time LOL. Plants are ripped up and the gravel is piled inches high in the corner. She finds a damn bit of slate which i once removed from the tank (Its normally hidden under the gravel) to see if that would stop her but no she just dug down to the bare glass and did it there. She's got her tune right down tonight and her slate is spotless and she's doing her very best to get the Bloody Parrot to fulfill her needs. I've had her about 3/4 years and she's magnificent. i thought she was male for a very long time because she is just so colourful.

Here are pictures of her.

sorry, nothing you can do about that. welcome to the world of cichlids.

Yeah I guessed as much. She's quite the character and hates my husband with a passion and has drew blood when he cleaned out the filters in her tank. She's killed of a jewel, 2 firemouths and a rainbow cichlid. Obviously my water conditions must be spot on for her.

my GT is pretty tame compared to my other ca/sa cichlids.

im supprised youre able to keep plants in there at all. usually cichlids tear up and uproot plants.

I'm very patient with my plants. Its a weekly task to repair damage and renew when needed. i should just set up a D/D with the LFS. LOL.

My GT is not friendly at all. She hates the colour red for some reason although the bloody parrot doesn't get the brunt of her temper. My hubby supports Nottingham Forest for his sins so when he wears the top she goes ballistic and tries to get him thru the glass!!

they probably need more space. in a smaller tank like your 63g, theyre fighting for the same space, and unfortunately for the blood parrot, the GT it the aggressor

Its actually the other way around. The parrot rules the tank. I can't possibly get a bigger tank as it would go through the floorboards!! LOL. Hubby would also leave me. The Parrot fish would be lethal if he had a mouth!

if you arent able to get a bigger tank, you will eventually need to rehome some of your fish.
if i recall you have TFB in the tank as well. and they will get entirely too big for your 63g tank.

Yeah I'm resigned to one day having to rehome my TFB and my silver sharks but for now they've got plenty room. What size of tank would a TFB need. Length wise I mean?

i wouldnt suggest anything smaller then a 6' tank long term.

Hmmm I could throw out my 23yo son to make room for a six footer! Now there's a thought. If I get rid of the 21 and 20 yo daughters I could have even more tanks. JK. .. maybe LOL
