are u bad mouthing me?
i know it is bad to put 4 goldies in a 20 I dont have the room
My dad had 5 goldies in a 10 gal for 6yrs
I think it is the comment "but whatever" to your ammonia that got people a bit worried. If I had a reading of 0.5 ammonia in any of my tanks I would not be shrugging my shoulders and saying "whatever" : I'd be right up there doing water changes, every day if necessary.
Also, when you first came on this forum and asked for help, you refused to tell anyone what your stocking levels were, because you had already received criticism on another forum. So you know there is something wrong, you know your fish are suffering and you refuse to do anything about it. Granted that you may not be able to afford a larger tank, but - you don't have to keep these fish, do you, if you can't look after them? You can always give them away, the lfs will no doubt take them for free, and then they have a chance of a better life. I couldn't afford the stabling for the pony my daughter would love- do you think it would be ok for me to keep it in the cupboard under the stairs? Of course not, so I don't keep a pony.
There are smaller fish that could live happily in a 10 or 20 gallon, as long as there was good filtration and a heater. I think this is the time for you to get round to some serious research.
FYI being able to keep goldfish alive for 6 years is not much of an achievement- these fish have a lifespan of 30-40 years. Taking on goldfish is very much of a longterm commitment. If the fish died after 6 years, then they may well have had their lifespan shortened by being in that tank.
