 Hi. I have a fantail piebald goldfish about 1 inch not including tail living with a small algae eater in a 10 gal. tank. All was dandy until I noticed he had a small white bump underneath his scales. Now he has more and on both sides. The original bump had burst through and the ones on the same side are as wel. It burst through then the scales semed to grow over it again. His behavior is normal, his eating habits are normal and his fins are held erect and swimming normally. All seems find except these bursting bumps. The water stats are generally as follows each time I check the water: Ph 8.4 Alkalinity 300 Hardness 25 Nitite 0 Nitrate 40 ammonia 0. I read that higher ph is OK for goldfish so I haven't treated that. The temp is 76-78 degrees F range. A 25% water change is performed each week. Anyone know what this is and what to do?

No, no cotton wool there. They look like he has bad acne forming under the skin then they burst through. Could be a parasite, but after it bursts through it gets covered again and is slightly smaller. I don't see anything moving underneath so I don't know what to make of it. The recovered bumps are growing again so I assume they will burst again.

My little BlackEyedPea is gone :byebye:

What is fish pox? Sounds interesting.

I checked out the site link of fish parasites but didn't find anything like he had there. I tore down the tank and cleaned, etc. it Now the wait begins to start over

A picture would certainly help, only thing I would hazard a guess at is White Spot? But I don't think that is quite what you are describing.

Sorry, no pics. My litte fishy had a Naval Burial. It was something I'd never seen described in any disease book or heard of...I guess my fish was a freak?
