I have had the fish for a full two days and I already have eggs! I have two pairs and the one layed eggs about an hour ago. I got to witness it! It was soo cool! Now I am going to have to go out and get a fry net and probably another tank and some fry food. Does anyone have any tips or things to watch out for for me? I wasn't TRYING to breed them. They did it all on their own. This is their first time too. They are young fish. Kind of exciting! :D

i thought the parents took care of their fry... you could always leave em in there and hope they do lol... im gonna get some bolivians this weekend !! i hope mine are as rdy to breed as yours were/are lol
good luck
:fish:

i would put them in another tank, or fry net if you want to keep the babies.

Although cichlids are supposed to have good parental insticts, in many cases, they have been almost breed out of them in exchange for new colour varieties.

If you want to let their parents look after the fry natrually, it may take a few broods for them to perfect their parental technique.

Good Luck!!!

Thanks you guys! :D I was planning on getting a fry net because I have a puffer in the same tank and no where to move him. The male keeps him away from the area they spawned in, but when the babies are born... I dont think Mr. Puffy is going to let them be. I'm probably going to have to get another tank too for the fry when they are bigger. :)

Good luck with your Bolivians iloveyou! I know I am absolutely LOVING my german blues! They are totally awesome! (I even love them more than my puffer! )

Hi,

Be very wary of using a net and make sure it has gt an extremely fine mesh, these fry are so very tiny.

I have spawned thes fish several times and both taken the fry from the parents and brought them up myself. You could also use an Ice-cream tub floating at the top of the tank with a small air stone in, just need to do regular water changes but it stops them little critters from escaping into your main tank.

If the pair is young and this is there first spawning then I would say it is likely that they will eat their first spawn.

Apisto.
