I know you've got tons of these... but... I have videos, which makes it special. :shifty:

Last afternoon I came home after a 2 day trip to find a little fry darting out of the plants and into a gathering of rocks with a parade of hungry platies behind it. I decided to leave it in, and soon after a "peppered" one appeared, and I thought my cories might have spawned! But then I realized it had a translucent head so it must be a tuxedo platy like the mother. I waited a while and then decided to set up a 2g tank. I'll have to keep it in indirect sunlight to keep it warm. So I capture the two and toss em in there, and then find another tuxedo one. The tank has gravel, which might pose a problem, but so far they're doing okay. Feeding Times:
8:30 Crushed Veggie Flakes
1:00 Mixed Flake tiny snack
3:00 Mixed Flake Meal
7:00 Mixed Flake Meal
10:30 Veggie Meal

So, I hope some algae will grow on the direction facing the window just for looks. I'm getting duckweed and maybe java moss along with the java fern I already have. Not sure if I want to do liquid ferts in case it hurts the babies, even though the adult platies like to eat it. If things get bad I'll just move it to my 10G, but these things refuse to go in fake plants. There are three, one translucent, going to be orange, and two tuxedos.

Video 2 - Featuring Philip.

At first I could tell the two tuxs apart because one was lighter but now I can't. Anyhow, their names are Philip, Dr. Zoidberg & Bender.... which Futurama watchers will get!

So... Daphnia. I have like this little puddle that usually has water in it. I remember I did a little science project a while ago, observing creatures from the water in that puddle. There were these round things that were crawling along the side of the tank and swimming, like planaria. If I take a medicine dropper and add some daphnia to the water, if that is daphnia, will it hurt them?

Look, pictures where you can see!

aw they are soo cute  will follow this journal with great interest especially if you keep the piccys coming as they grow, sorry i cant answer your question though

Nice, keep the post going. like the names :) why not leila and bender?

lmao! Alright, Jay and Fry are officially renamed Dr. Zoidberg and Bender. :p

Lovely fry, hope they continue to develop well!

What types of platy are their parents, I take it one is Tuxedo?

The mother is a tuxedo, I can't exactly pinpoint the male since she could have been storing sperm, but the one in this tank with her is an orange MM platy.

This seems to be collecting on the rocks. I think I'm feeding too much or is this a result of being in contact with sunshine?

Is it harmful? How can I get rid of it? If I get a filter, will it get better?

It's not harmful. Cut back on feedings. I don't know how easy it is, but moving the tank out of direct sunlight is a good idea. Try to curb the things cause algae rather than picking up an algae eater.

Half of the tank is in partial sunlight and the other half more in shade. the thing that throws me off is that the tank is all clear on the side facing the sun?

So they've at least doubled in size, they're little munchers and poopers. I need to pick up a heater on Friday because the water can get frigid at times, like right now it's only 68 before I added warm water to bump it up to 70. I hope they can survive until then - but anyhow, pictures. They got big enough so that the camera focuses good on them....
