my silver Mollie had fry three weeks ago and ive been thinking about letting them out there little hatchery into my 30l tank, would they be ok with my two black skirt tetras im looking after for a friend? there probably about a centremetre long. will be getting more plants tommorow as there going to need them if i let them out.

i let mine out and was fine.My little guppy thats about the same size i let out with my 2 rainbow fish that are about 4inch and theyre fine.

I wouldn't release them unless you are not going to care if they get eaten. They may not be eaten, but there is no guarantee, and if they are mouth-sized I would think it would be likely they become snacks.

i do care if they get eaten im just fed up of seeing the little hatchery in the tank and wondered if they'd be ok, the tetras never seem aggressive but il probably leave it a while longer or if i get chance just pop to the lfs and get loads of plants and another ornament for them to hide in.

Floating plants like Hornwort help fish that swim towards the top. Java Moss is like a tangle of string, so it should make a good hiding place. Tetras are commonly known as fin nippers. I would suspect they will be fry eaters as well.

It is possible if your fish are well fed that they will leave the fry alone.

While it helps, I wouldn't count on it. Fish eat on instinct. As they don't know when the next meal is coming, they will eat things that move. You've all seen them inhale their own poo and spit it back out. If you drop a pebble, they'll instantly turn to it to check it out to see if it is food.

iv'e seen the poo thing, I think its gross but my daughter gets a kick out of it. Iv'e also seen them at the rear end. I guess its just the nature of things like a dog and there owners butt.
