Hi,
the fiter and heater have been switched off since about 7 last night until 2 this morning ,temperature has only gone down from 24 to 22 ,but concerned about my filter media ,especially since the tank is still cycling ,will it have been affected in any way?my tank is 28l

Will be fine mate, the bacteria loss will be minamal at best, if your in a fishless cycle up the temp to 28c anyway will help the bacteria breed faster

Thanks a lot ,was so worried will my fish be affected by this temp 28,glowlight tetra ,pitbull pleco, corries ,armano shrimp, also was worried as i`d read in leaflet for filter that in a powercut,if filter`s switched off for more than 3 hrs ,the bacteria will die?

as long as the bacteria are submerged then they will survive, the companys tell u that to make more money out of u buying useless bacteria in a bottle rubbish to 'seed you filter to success'

As long as theyre wet they'll survive because honestly, a snail can survive out of water for 30 mins and he's a billion times bigger than those bacteria so they'll be fine.

if you are doing a fish in cycle you need lots of water changes and to keep the temp comfortable for the fish (24-26) otherwise they may become stressed if it is too high.

Good luck and avoid ammonia poisioning!

:good: :kana:

The temperature change is negligible, a change of 2[sup]o[/sup]C is the equivalent of it raining in the wild, it could even do good things such as initiate spawning, there are always natural temperature fluctuations in the wild, so one of this degree will have caused no harm to the fish.

The bacteria die off rate is said to be about 9% every 24 hours, when submerged with no fresh nutrients for them to feed on. Again the affect on your bacterial colony will be negligible.

Just plug your heater and filter back in and leave it to warm up on its own.

i would say check your ammonia lvls and possibly do a water change, since the fish were swimming in their own waste all night!

Did check ammonia levels last night .and this morning both times 0,thanks for all your help ,haven`t done a journal yet>
