My friend is new to fish and he is getting a 100 litre tank. It has all the filters and stuff.

I was just wandering if his wanting mixture is ok.

It is:

1 Betta Male
6 Rummy Nose Tetras
1 Red tailed Black Shark
1/2 Angelfish
4 Albino Cory Cats
2/3 Otos
4 Swordtails / Maybe Some Mollies as well

And, what is there that I can help him with. (Please post links to helpful web pages that I can give him.

Thanks

(Please ignore this link, it's just so I can send this page to him all together)

strait off no to the betta :( sorry but ther no good in community i tryed that

the tetras will be okay but i would reccoment about 10 for effect

the RTS will outgrow the tank and can be agressive

angels will outgrow the tank and will eat the neons

albeano corys will be fine if its a sand substrait

and ottos really need a groupe of 6 or more :)

other may say diffrent but in my opinion thats my answers

I disagree, I currently have a 29gallon tank with 4 angles, I had a betta in there and he was fine... the RTBS wouldn't outgrow the tank as it gets to only 4.5" and otos need 3 or more in a group... I'd say you're fine and fat fish, neon tetras were never in the stocking list... rummy nosed are and they grow large enough not to be eaten...

okay then strike that about the tetras comment :p

thos the RTS will be agressive and like i said it just me thinking that a RTS will eb to big i think anythink over 4" should be in at least a 30 gal

and same with the betta that depends on the battas attitude some pple ahve sucess some people dont i dident have any sucess with my betta he went after all the fish smaller then himself

i am going with him to the lfs and i'll probably tell him to get the red or blue one and they are both with neons and rummy nose tetras and are fine, they look a bit depressed :-(

bettas are no no. some may do okay in a community, but others may nip at their tails.

like we've said, no to the RTBS, no to the betta and no neon tetras if he wants angle fish...

I have to agree about the Betta and say it's a definite no. But if your friend wants to try it make sure he has a back-up tank for the Betta in case it doesn't work out.

It is:

1 Betta Male- no, risky in communities, if you really want to have a backup ready
6 Rummy Nose Tetras
1 Red tailed Black Shark - gets too big for 100 litres, min 40 gallons because large and fast
1/2 Angelfish - sorry, they need bigger tanks as well, and do best in a shoal
4 Albino Cory Cats - yup, good choice, maybe get 6?
2/3 Otos - will do well
4 Swordtails / Maybe Some Mollies as well - good choice, but fry may be a problem
