I started my fishless cycle on Wednesday (04/03/09), my first water test results are as follows (tested today):

Ammonia - 0.25
Nitrate - 10
Nitrite - 0
PH - 7.4

Do these seem about right? I'm using the tetra 5 in 1 test strips.

Thanks

If you added 5ppm of Ammonia to start and haven't seeded with mature filter media, it's moving mighty fast, or alternatively, you have fallen victim to dodgy test kits (likely). Strips are realy inaccurate, often giving false highs and lows  Seriously, asking a relative that has no clue about fish keeping to make up some random numbers for your results is likley to be more accurate  You want a good liquid based test kit realy, I use the Tetra liquid kit (not the strips), but API and Nutrafin are both popular on here. A full API master kit can be had for about £25 deilvered online, and does something like 100 tests, so is cheaper on a per test basis too :good:
