Im a few days into my fishless cycle on my 55, and i had a thought...( i know, rare;>)

It took about 60 drops to hit 5ppm.
I checked it again the next day, and it was still sitting at about 5ppm.

Soooo.. my question is this...
It says to add however many drops it takes to hit 5ppm everyday....

BUT.. if im still sitting at 5ppm, do i still have to add the drops for that day?

Wow... quite different then the article on this site...
Im sitting at 5ppm now, so i guess ill just sit on that level till i see it drop, then check nitrites n go from there....

Interesting game.... unlike 15 years ago when i would just cycle with a few fish... but this does certainly seem better for little friends.. ;)

That article is a different from the method I prefer. I did exactly what you are doing (on my 75 gallon), raised the level to 5 or 6 ppm and then waited for it to drop. Once it dropped to zero, I added enough to raise it to 1 to 2 ppm and waited again. It took about 7 days for it to drop to zero the first time but after that, it only took 10 to 15 hours to drop from 2 ppm back to zero. Every time it dropped I added again. The nitrites went off the chart but they finally dropped 2 weeks after the ammonia. Total cycling time was 3 weeks. Good luck.
