I have a question about a fishes tail.

I have a very sick fish, doubt he'll make it through the night, but as the days have gone on, his tail seems to be shrinking. Like... a healthy fishes tail is all fanned out, but his is all small and shrivelled up.

Does this happen when a fish starts to die, or does he have some sort of parasite?

When a fish is sick they will clamp their fins together or there is a diesease called finrot in which bacteria eats the fishes fins away.

Good luck to your fish

Does the fin look kind of ragged/frayed at the end, or does it have holes in it? If it does then you are probably dealing with finrot.

Do you have any meds at hand?

When I had fin rot in my tank I used Myxazin by waterlife, which worked really well. You can also use Melafix, to repair the damage.

You know what... his tail looked as if it had been eatten, I just figured the other fish were attacking him (i saw them attack him), and maybe it's because he has finrot.

Is that something that the other fish can catch? I have him in a different tank right now with no other fish.

He's pretty close to dying so I doubt medicine will help him at all. Anyway, I heard that medicating the fish can cause more damage than good.

I just hope my other fish don't catch anything.

I don't think finrot is contageous, but as for meds doing more harm than good..........it depends on the med u use. I think the main danger when using meds is
1) wrongly diagnosing the disease and using the wrong meds
2) mixing meds
3) Overdosing

At the end of the day if the fish is in a seperate tank, u think it's gonna die and you have meds at hand, you've got nothing to lose by trying.
