Hello everyone,

First off I want to say thank you to everyone on here (you have probably saved the lives of my fish). I bought a new tank about 6 weeks ago and put in 5 Danio's a few days later on the advice of the local shop. I went back a few weeks ago and picked up 3 balloon mollies which I love.

When I was in the shop I saw something called a "fighter fish" so I looked into it online and came across this site.

I have read up on the fish in cycle and have been doing water changes since. All my fish seem to be happy and are quite active, I have also been checking water levels with my API test kit. It seems like my Nitrites are dropping (and virtually no ammonia) so I'm almost cycled (maybe).

Anyway I won't be adding any more fish until I am fully cycled. I really like the look of the (Siamese) fighter fish and was wondering if I can put him in my tank and what else would be good.

I have a 64l (2ft) tank (about 62l with ornaments in) the rock is a temporary measure to keep the log sunk.

Anyway, thought I would say "hi" and ask about other fish and if there is anything to improve my tank.

welcome to the forum! Well done on doing some research and reading to get you off on the right track....

Hi there. I also love the look of the Siamese fighting fish and had one in a 10 gallon tank (would never keep on in a bowl since they need heat and some room to swim). He LOVED it and within days of being put in it, he had made a huge bubble nest.

I decided to get a larger tank because the 10 gallon was too limiting and I wanted more fish (had only the betta and six neons). Shortly after I put him and the neons in the larger 27 g cube, he got sick and died. He was miserable. I'm not sure how your betta would adjust to the tank you have, but I would definitly stay away from anything too large or deep as they need to swim to the top to get air.

In the wild, these fish live in shallow pools of murky water which is very warm, so they are most comfortable with smaller, although not tiny, tanks. You could try it and see how he responds. If he seems happy, doesn't lose his colors, and doesn't get sick, than it would be fine. If he makes a bubble nest, he LOVES it!

What plants would you suggest?

Also would you recommend any cory's that could go in my tank. or any other interesting fish.

Thanks

nemo

I have male betta(fighter) in my tank. Check out my sig. He appears to have no issues and works all levels of the tank.

You can get things called betta beds which attach to the top of the tank for the betta to rest in and still easily get to the surface.

panda corys are a very nice corydoras u can get some nicer ones but they are expensive, btw corys are a great fish i have 6 and i love them. i totally recommend getting some.
