Hi,
I've just returned after a week long holiday and found one of my whiteskirt tetras looking noticeably thinner than the week before. He's still interested in food but he just nibbles a little and spits out most of what he chews. Someone took care of their feeding while I was away, and I don't think my absence had anything to do with it. Maybe he had been gettinig thinner for a longer time and I only noticed after not seeing him for a week. The rest of his tankmates seem fine. Could this be Old age? I've had him for 3 years now. I know Old Age is not a disease but I'd like to know if this is a natural process or if it's something else. I'm a bit worried now. I'm doing a waterchange just in case, but please feel free to contribute with any suggestion. I feed them mostly flakes and some dried krill.
Thanks for any help in advance

How does his poop look?
What are the water stats?
Does he only spit out the flakes or the krill as well?
If his poop his white it might be internal parasites, it might also be fish TB.

Oh OK I hadn't seen it.

Tank size: 10 gallons (40 liters)
I've just done a waterchange so my stats are quite low.

pH: 7.5
ammonia:0
nitrite:0
nitrate:20ish
kH: don't know
gH: don't know
tank temp: 27 celsius

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): tehre a re no lesions whatsoever, nor any change in colour. Just looks quite thin and "bony". Still eats, but significantly less thaan the week before

Volume and Frequency of water changes: 20% every 10 days

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: Aquarium salt with every waterchange (2 tablespoons)

Tank inhabitants: 1 male and 1 female guppys, 2 baby guppys in a maternity floating box, 2 witheskirt tetras.

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): none

Exposure to chemicals: I add 20 drops of Aquarium pharmaceuticals 'Stress coat' with every waterchange.

Well, judging from my tetras, I'd say they're quite discreet little fishys. I've never seen them poop! Never! Not a little bit! On the other hand my guppys and my deceased plattys.... The only poop I see in my tank now is from my guppys and it looks like short strips of dark-brownish matter, normal looking I'd say. And I hadn't had the opportunity of feeding him krill yet. I've been homw for a day only but I'll pay attention.

is the krill alive or freeze dried/frozen?
Do you feed any other live food?
Did the person who was feeding them feed them any live food?

I give them dried krill once or twice a week, and no the person in charge only fed them thteir flakes, and she might have given them some krill too, no live food whatsoever.

He's more interested in food now, and eats better but I've caught him a couple of times swimming on his side for a second or two. Is it bad news? :shout:
