Please help me out on this one. my guppy has blood on his left side and on the top of his head. he is circling the top of the tank. the guy in the pet store said they circle if they are hit in the fins. is this correct? the fish is doesnt look every good. i would like to make sure this doesnt happen in future. he's in a tank with bala sharks and neon tetras.

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

is the bleeding beneath the skin or on top. If it's not an injury it could be septicemia.

Fish swim in circles when there dying, internal parasites, bacterial infection, bad water quality.
Never heard that before what the lfs said. So couldn't comment on it.

thx 4 your reply.

Ammonia was between 1.0 and 0.50.
nitrate 0.
nitrite 0.

we changed 50% of water.

the lfs actually said gills not fins sorry....
i tink the fish had bleeding on top. he died this morning :( . He started kindof floating vertically in our plant last night though. the blood only appeared yesterdy. we tink our guppys have had some disease or something.

I suppose if fish are hit in the gill area they will dart and circle.

But circling can mean so many other things.

You need to do water changes till your ammonia and nitrite reading are 0.

Need tank size.
How long has the tank been set up.

What your tap nitrate reading, and do you have live plants.

tank is 60 litres.
it has been set up since december 2009.

nitrate is normal.
we had a plant but it was dying so we removed it. might get another soon.

what do you think??

The tanks way to small for bala sharks.
They need 100 gallon tanks.

How many of each fish do you have in the tank.

Your water stats are telling you that your tanks severely overstocked.
That's why the fish are unwell, due to overstocking, and bad water quality.
