I gave my gouramis and my phantom, cherry barb, and 2 danios to petco today. I have a deep seperation issue. They were my first fish. I just didn't have aduquate housing. My gouramis were living in a 10G, and everything else was off bad.
I feel so sad.
I just had to give em' away because I wanted to keep my MBuna fish in my 55G.
I gots some more African Cichlids today. That made me alittle happier.
hmhm....
It was weird, because we stayed there for a while, and after they added them to the show tank, it was funny because it was so obvouse mine was older than all those little young guys. My Gold, Pearl and Opline were all put in different tanks. It made me sadder.
Hmhn....my first fish were wounderful......

That's really sad :-( You obviously did the right thing if you no longer have enough space to keep them, but couldn't you have given them away to another fishkeeper you know so you would be happy knowing they've still got a good home?

Except I dont know a good fishkeeper with a large enough tank.
I could have given them away to someone on here, but I'd have never gotten the right shipping stuff for em'......

Wow. That was comforting. ::rolls eyes::

Hopefully your fish find a good home with someone who recognizes that they are older, healthier animals. You did the right thing by trying to rehome them if you could not afford bigger tanks or continue thier care.

And its not like I'm some dramatic fruit who crys at night longing for his fish.
I was suprised that after about 15 MIN. from when I gave they guy my fish, he'd already put them in the show tanks!
I thought they gave them to other emploies....What if my fish were very sick on the inside, but looked ok on the outside? They have one lagre filter for all 30 tanks or so. Could it wipe out their whole system?

Yes, if one fish gets sick, all the fish can get sick. Atleast I'm pretty sure it works like that. Do you not have a small non-chain fish store in your area that takes fish? Or do you trust your petco? There are none around here (thank god), but I've heard that stores like petco, petsmart, etc aren't the greatest. The worst we have around here is the dreaded Walmart. Sorry you had to give away you fish, and hopefully some well-informed fish keeper ends up with your fish....

Ya' need to give each chain the benefit of the doubt... around here we have a petco, petsmart, and wal-mart.... the PetSmart here, although they do have a couple of knuckleheads, a majority of the fish people have things right and care about the fish a lot... The Petco, eh, not so much, I dont go there anymore..... And the Wal-Mart, same thing, a couple of knuckleheads, but there are quite a few in the fish dept that are actually not too bad and do keep a good eye on their tanks.

So anyway, to sum up my longwindedness.... Hopefully, they dont have too many knuckleheads at his PetCo :)

I love my petco.
I trust it way more than anyother Fish store in our area.
A world of fish is ok, but they have about 300 million fish, so It's hard for them to keep an eye on any group of fish..The people at petco are great.
They all know a ton about fish...hmhm....
the Petsmarts around here are not that great at all..

Sorry to hear you had to give up your fish. Nothing wrong with missing them! My tank's been gone 2 1/2 months and I still miss my little guys :-(

Good luck with your remaining fishies!
