I am fairly new to this hobby....

I have had the tank around 6 weeks. around 2 weeks into it, i got a bad dose of ich, which took a while to shift. since then my fish have been dying.

most of them seem to die with no symptoms, swimming one moment, and floating the next. i have trawled the forum, and I am at a loss! i really don't know what to do next, apart from strip tank down and start again with fresh fish.

The ones that have symptoms: my guppies mainly, their tail dissapears into just thin strands then they die. I have lost mollies and platys with no symptoms.

my stats:

juwel 120
ph 7.2
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate..... no test at the moment, awaiting delivery of one.

When the fish starte dying, i stupidly done a complete tank change, thoroughly washing the gravel and filter out. which means my tank will not be cycled.

i treat them with meth blue, made no difference, i then done 50% water change, and am treating with myxazin at the moment, on the 2nd day of the course.

can anyone help me save my fish?

Please don't clean the gravel and filter worse thing you can do, just water changes.
If the tank has to keep going through the cycle again no wonder there dying.

Thanks for replying.

I know I could kick myself for cleaning so thoroghly! I am currently cycling another small tank too (my fry tank) And its going well. ammonia is 0, fighting with the nitrite at the moment. but I am not losing any fish there.

What can i do with the bigger tank? is it just a matter of waiting now? is there no disease, just a matter of cycling?

any advice appreciated!

With livebearers I would check for these symtoms.
Being thin or bloated.
long stringy white poo, or clear looking, or red in the poo.
Check the anus of the fish to see if it's enlarged or red and inflamed.

Finrot can be caused by bad water quality.
Finrot can be a secondary infection, meaning some else is going on.
Finrot quite common with whitespot.
