Hi Guys i have just joined this site and despite keeping fish for over a year i have came across my worst disaster of all. I recently had a 60 litre tank and had no problems so i decided to upgrade to a 190 litre...... bad idea. i have had it for over two weeks now and sine the begining of the week i have been losing fish. One of cats developed whitespot then died over the weekend. I purchsed protozin and have started to apply, along with the water change and upping the temprature. My P.H and Nitrate levels are good. I just came home now and picked out 5 more dead fish on top of that 75% of my tank is now whitespot infected incuding what looks like finrot and some type of blistering on the neon tetras. I am sad and desperate and now fear the worst for my beloved fish. I have around 40 fish left but the majority of my fish are really small so im not sure if this is what is causing it. Pleae help me.

So the tank is cycled.
Finrot common on top of whitespot, sounds like they have a bacterial infection on top with the blistering skin.
Whitespot can soon kill a fish if the gills get infested.
The neons have they lost there in colour in the red stripe area.

Yes very dull with white blistering some are about to die as they are on there last breath. Any ideas???

Any black lining around the red.
So the red stripe looks bleached out.
Have they left the shoal.
Any lumps on the belly that go to a point.
Any gone thin or bloated up.
Do the neons swim oddly.

And yes i carried out a cycle two days ago

Only one seems top have the white blistering at the back and yes they have split up into small groups. all the fish seem lethargic. only seems to be the plegotamuses that dont have any white spot. None of the other ahve the things you asked i.e like black lining on them

Thats fine then just wanted to make sure they didn't have ntd.
The blistering could be from when the tank was cycling.
Do you have any melafix as I would add that for now.

So do you think that with the whitespot treatment they will soon get better and with that other stuff. And why now this is the first time ever having this is it due to my new tank i just cant figure it out, will probably be pulling out more fish tomorrow. How many fish should i have in a 190 litre tank. Sorry about all the questions but i am attached to my fish and dont want to lose them all.

How many fish do you have in the tank.
If the tank wasn't cycled when you added the fish they get stressed and ill.
Have you increases aeration in the tank and removed black carbon.
Temp needs to be 30, plenty of aeration as the whitespot med and high temp reduce 02 in the water.

I left my tank for 8 days before adding any fish then gradually added them over a week or so i have over 40 but most are neon size only 5 between 3 - 5 inches. I only cycled for the fiist time last week and my tank has been running now for just over three weeks. I have a aqua clear air pump which is giving off plenty air and my tank has been sitting at betweeb 79 - 82. this is the highest i can get from my heater....

How long have you been ttreating for whitespot as it can take two rounds.

Just since the weekend thats all. I just wanted to now if it was anything else apart from white spot due to the rotting and blistering. Do you reckon that amount is ok then for the fish tank.

Whitespot looks like the fish have been sprinkled in salt, yes they can cause skin damage as parasites are nasty, this is how they get bacterial infections on top as the irratate the skin and then it can get sore with blisters.

So how long till it clears you reckon??? and is it just whitespot and nothing else. Def salt like on the fish.
