My Fish Are All Dying!

Just been to a centre and they have advised me to use 'TetraAqua SafeStart' to try and settle it and speed the process up a lil bit, not to harm the fish any more.

Just wondering now i've only put in half the bottle, as the tank has been going for 2 weeks, and thought that be better if im wrong please say so. all help and advice is greatly appreciated!

Never used safe start just follow the instuctions on the bottle.
Good luck.

Well it seems that my ammonia levels are starting to decrease still fairly high though. Just one of my mollies has got really red gills atm I suppose thats the toxins doing that, Does anyone know what can help him?

Red gills yes due to bad water quality, gill flukes.

As Wilder says, you are correct. It is likely to be the ammonia causing the redness around the gills. Do water changes to lower the ammonia level to no higher than 0.25mg/l and continue water changes to keep it there. You should see a huge difference in your fish almost instantly.

so really all I can do is continue to keep my fish and feed them even less, and do changes little and often, and that will hopefully get the tank in the right place?

Do you know how long that may take>?

On the contrary, do changes large and often if necessary to keep toxin levels low. Don't be afraid to change up to 75% of the water if need be.

The benefits of large water changes far outweigh any negative effect (i would debate that there is virtually no negative effect, but that is another issue).

Many many people lose their fish through following advice not to change too much water, but in actual fact, the reverse is true. Large water changes will often save a fish's life in emergency circumstances whereas small changes will just prolong the death.

Thanks all, well yesterday ammonia and nitrite were a little bit high!

However I have just done a test and wahey they are both at '0' so excited!

Just hope that this means the tank is now cycled!
