Well I put my Female Guppy in one Of the breeding tanks, and when i got back from work there was 2 babys swimming about,

So i sat there with my girlfriend and watched her for abit, We saw her Gving birth to further 24 Babys

So she had 26 Babys, 5 Of them were Deformed or came out dead though :(

Is there a reason for this?????

I was wondering is there special food for fry? and how often do you feed them?

Also How long do they need to be in the seperation tank? and when can you tell if they are going to male or Female?

Cheers

Nath

Chuffed as... :)

Congradulations on your new babies :D

Ok lets try to answer some of the questions

So she had 26 Babys, 5 Of them were Deformed or came out dead though

This is nearly always the case and the way nature selects the fitest..If the deformed babies are still alive it may be kinder to let them go.

I always use normal flake food but crushed up like dust. You can also try them on brineshrimp that is cut up really tiny. I feed them twice a day when they are first born (morning/night). As they get bigger I reduce this to once a day.

Also How long do they need to be in the seperation tank?

When the fish are bigger than a mouthful for the fishys in the tank then thats when they will be safe.

and when can you tell if they are going to male or Female?

This may take a couple of months.

Congratulations.

I have always wanted to see a live birth.Never been lucky enough though.

You can get blister packs of frozen brine shrimp. Just pop a cube in a glass with about 5ml of warm tank water. When its defrosted stick half in the tank with the fry and give the rest to your fish as a treat.

My guppy fry went nuts over the baby brine shrimp.

Thanks alot for your Help, a great help :)

I guessed this, So what i did, was Put the Live ones into another breeding tank, then emptyed the Deformed ones into the tank which the fish ate

I thought it was best

Cant wait to get home and see if they are OK

Congradulations on the fry!!!
I always love watching my female guppy giving birth.

At the age of 4 weeks the fry start to develop into male or female and at 6 weeks the fry will become sexually active so I recommend to start splitting them up you can use a magnifying glass to see the gravid spot and gonopodium. Mix ups do happen so don't worry!

There is some special food for fry which is called liquidfry, but its very messy. Usually people feed the fry crushed up flake food which you can put about a tablespoon of flake food in a ziplock bag and then crush it by rolling a pen over it several times. Works great for me.

Until the babies start showing a great growth rate i been feeding my fry freshly hatched baby brine shrimp. They love it so much that you can see their little bellies almost about to bust and then it gets them excited for food the rest of their life that i have noticed so far.

Depending on how fast you want the fry to grow and how much you clean their tank on how many times to feed them. I been feeding my newborns at least 4 times a day but right now they are in a breeding trap where i do a daily water change in the trap, its quiet simple and easy.

sorry for stealing the thread BUT, are you sure? because i have about...40+ fry  about 2 months old and they all look like females to me! i know how to sex them, is there something wrong? theyre mollies

They may be all female. The gender of livebearer fry can be affected by the pH of the water, I think it's the higher the pH, the more females.. though I'm not sure. Anyways, my pH is 7.4 and I haven't had a male platy baby yet. :p
