Greetings,

I am new to the group, and have a few questions about my first try at spawning betta's..
Here are the details.

1. Mr Blue and Ms Red were conditioned over a few weeks. Ms Red immeadiatly showed verticle stripes and her egg tube (thingy?) and kind of posed,(almost vertical - nose down) once they were placed in the same tank. Unfortunatley, Mr Blue was not interested and ignored her...choosing to look at his own reflection, so they were separated.

2. Mr Red and the same female were conditioned over a few weeks, and upon placing them togther in the water...she did not show verticle stripes, and wanted nothing to do with Mr Red. Mr Red was also not interested either, and ignored her...no chasing fighting or biting.

As of yesterday I attemted pairing the same couple in #1, and again...as soon as Ms Red was in the same tank - showed all the signs of being willing and able. This time...Mr Blue noticed. So when they first started "embracing" no eggs would drop. This went on at least once per minute for a full hour. I'm guessing first timers need practice? About and hour later we hit the jackpot, and each embrace scored at least 20 eggs which where retrieved by Mr Blue....and he appeared to be placing them in the nest.

So a few questions come to mind after removing the female.

Are females known to be picky like that? Liking one male and not another?

How long before I can see,(using magnifying glass) if Mr Blue really placed the eggs in the nest?

I have the room and means to take care of all babies, if round 1 was succesfull.

Would love to hear from the betta pro's out there for tips and guidance. The only other thing I can think of requesting....is perhaps a link to a DIY barracks type set up. Hoping to make a set up giving each fish at least a gallon to themselves.

Thanks -Rick
