I decided on a firemouth (I'm hoping it was the right decision). After many hours of looking, I found a very small one (maybe an inch or two, max). I have a ten gallon running just in case something goes very wrong. Also made sure I got him right before I have a few days off to keep a close eye on everything.

I haven't moved my danios or tetras yet (wasn't sure if he would still be a threat to them if he couldn't eat them). I know I should move them as soon as possible, but how long do I have before he can eat them? (If he shows any aggression towards them, I'll of course move them then).

He's been in the tank for about 6 hours, and seems pretty shy (for now). My krib has been giving him her usual boundary lesson she gives to all newbies. But he's eating already, so that makes me feel good.

My first "advanced" fish...I'm so excited...hope I don't screw it up.

yes they may take a while to get settled, firemouths are pretty cool fish, i think kribs are considered real fish too since they are cichlids :p any cichlid is a real fish haha

I had my firemouth in my ten gallon when I first got him (he's still little) and he was fine with the other fish till he decided that cory eyes look good enough to eat. Then he got moved...

Thanks....24 hours and still doing good.....

Just for clarification, they can be ok with other fish besides cichlids, right? I know they aren't considered community fish like rams. I'm just asking once again because the lfs guy I got him from said firemouths are unusually aggressive cichlids. I know they are when breeding (like most cichlids), but form reading a few things on here and other places, they seem to be pretty mild tempered for a cichlid.

nahh, theyre calm little guys most of the time, but then sometimes they can get real cocky
