Hi all,

My first post so if this is an every day question please accept my appologies.

Some years ago I saw some tropical fish in a tank which resembled tiny scaled down sharks. I've tried to find out what they are called and various people have suggested Silver Sharks but these definately looked just like tiny Reef sharks approx a few inches long. I seem to remember the tank was heated but as it was so long ago that about all I can decribe.

Did I dream all of this or does anyone have any idea as to what I'm trying to describe?

Thanks,

Griff

Silver sharks and bala sharks are the same. These fish you're talking about, did they actualy have shark in their name? They might have been silver/bala sharks - the babies look more like miniature sharks than the adults, copper-nosed minnows or possibly even scissortails or giant scissortails. It could also have been a black sharks, red tail black shark, maroon shark, apollo shark, red finned shark, ruby shark or albino rainbow shark. Possibly even a siamese flying fox, false siamese flying fox, flying fox or any of the other similar species of 'shark'. They don't realy look like sharks though IMO. :p

Thanks for the replys. We're going back about 9 years here so I have absolutely no idea of the name.

I've cassually asked a few people who keep fish and they seem to know what I am refering too. The closest I seen so far was a Pim Striped catfish (sp?).

Any chance you know the scientific name? :p I don't think pimelodus catfish look like sharks...

Most likely one of the shark catfish family Ariidae

Did it look like this?

If so Columbian shark cats; Arius seemani, are brackish/marine dwelling catfish which grow up to around 14 inches in a home aquarium. They are predators and should only be kept with fish over half their own size.
