Well I knew it would happen sooner or later, suffered my first loss today
.
Around lunchtime today I noticed one of my neon tetra's floating by the inlet for the filter, took it out and examined and no obvious signs of disease (fungus, spots scales out of place) but it's belly was split open
and I don't know if it's happened after death or it's the cause.
They (neon tetra's) do seem to eat everything including algae wafers and cucumber. There was some cucumber in there and it may have either eaten too much or it disagreed, other than that I have no other idea's.
The only other thought is that these were the original inhabitants in the tank for cycling, so perhaps the stress of that and it's age may have been a contributing factor?
Nitrite and ammonia are 0, nitrate is 25, ph is 7.2. so I've done a 25% change and cleaned gravel etc.
All other fish seem ok, with no unusual behaviour so fingers crossed for the next few days that it was just this one fish.
Anyway
Neon Tetra and
