Hi.

Today my 6-year-old golden gourami died while I was gone.  He was originally part of gourami tank with 2 golden gouramis, 2 blue gouramis, 1 kissing gourami, and a male betta.  My friend gave him to me in July of last year, and it's been pretty stressful for him since I think.  From July until December he was in a 6.6 gallon tank with 8 platys, 2 guppies, and a small pleco.  Before my friend gave him to me she said "I don't even know if he's still alive... I don't remember the last time his tank was cleaned, or if anyone's fed him lately, so he might be dead..." Zip was my first gourami, and they are now one of my favorite aquarium fish!

R.I.P. Zip!

Sorry for your loss but I have to ask... Why was he in a 6.6 gallon tank with Platies, Guppies and a pleco?! Golden gourami's are way too big for 6.6 gallon tanks, in fatc every but the guppies were :/

It was a temporary setup until I got my 55 Gallon tank up and running.  I was given all of the fish way before I got the tank.  I did know I was overstocked, but the people who were giving me the tank gave me the gourami first so they could empty the tank I guess, then they didn't get me the tank until October, then I setup the tank, and fishless cycled before adding my fish in mid-December.

Ah, OK. Was just a bit "

Yeah, sorry I didn't explain that better! I was supposed to have gotten the 55 gallon tank the day after my friend gave me the fish, but I ended up having to go pick it up after months of being told I'd get it within the week.

Ah :/ Ouch... They really should have given it you straight away...

Yeah, that was the plan, but it didn't happen.  Though according to what my friend was saying even being in the little tank was better than being at her house, she didn't know if he was alive, and hadn't looked at him in weeks apparently! At least I fed him every day, and cleaned out his tank at least once a week...

Hmm... Fair point :/

The saddest part about that is that the tank was right next to her front door, so she could have looked over when leaving, or coming home, and seen that he's light wasn't on, or realized that she hadn't fed him yet, or something... But he was 6, so I'd say that's pretty good all things considered.

Yeah, 6 is a good age considering.
