My First Batch Of Wrigglers!

Great pics Emelee.....they are coming on lovely now and getting curious by the day by the sounds of it lol

Thanks Netty! I'm glad they are investigating the upper regions of the tank so I can actually see them! There so many in one spot at the filter and it was so fun watching them nibbling on everything. I did notice one little fry with a nip in its tail! But maybe it's just a deformity...? Surely they are not fighting yet, right?

Emelee your babies are coming on so well, they look amazing. I haven't noticed any colour difference between mine yet, they just vary quite a lot in size! I wouldn't of thought they would be fighting yet so it does sound like either a deformity or maybe the little guy damaged it somehow?? Can't wait for the next update x

They shouldn't be fighting this earlier. Most times they don't really start until about 8 weeks but we did have a PK spawn last year that we had to separate at 4 weeks. Fiesty little buggers they were lol

I'm hoping it is just my bad eye-sight  or the little guy just damaged it. It was such a tiny problem it probably was me just worrying about nothing. But I have witnessed a larger fry attacking one of those fry that just spiral swim up and down. I think it was eaten because I haven't seen it for a few days.

It is strange, the fry's actual body is darker. Obviously they don't have any scales yet... Even looking top down on them I can tell, I'm hoping those that are darker get their Dad's coloring. I'm curious to see if this is actually a possibility!! :D

Netty-I hope I don't have to separate them at 4 weeks, I want them to be friends with each other, especially the girls so they can go with their Mom into the community tank!! :p

The fry will eat any dead ones which is probably why you can't see it any more!!!

Even at this age you can see whether they will be light coloured or dark. Platinum babies or cambodians look just like little pearls with no darkness to them at all.

Fingers crossed they are not too fiesty and will behave for a few weeks longer. The large one may have been attacking the smaller one because it knew it was sickly but the healthy ones should do fine for a while longer yet.

Figures why I don't see any dead ones, besides the gravel hiding them...

I'm so glad there will be some light and dark ones!! I didn't know you could tell so early but I'm really happy!! :D

One last question, how soon will I be able to tell if they have the CT gene from their mom? I know you can't tell the HM until they are older...

Probably anywhere from 1 - 2 months old.

This is one of our babies from a PK x CT spawn. You can just make out the extensions on the caudal fin.

Thanks Netty, that's great! :D

I can't wait for all their colors and tail types to start showing! That's the part that really fascinates me!
