I got my first angelfish yesterday. I really don't know why I haven't considdered keeping them sooner. They are an absolute delight to watch. I'm in love. Haha.

^^ That's the tank. 29 gallon. The only other fish are 2 corys (I want to get 2-3 more, but the LFS hasn't had any in stock!!)

And some pics of the angels....

Other than a few more corys to round out the group, any suggestions on other fish to finish this tank off? Maybe some medium-size tetras or something (that wouldn't become dinner to the angels when they get bigger)? I've heard gouramis and angels work well together too ... perhaps 1 dwarf instead of the tetras? Thoughts? Or, I think I could be happy with a schoal of corys and my 2 angels. They're so lovely!

They are very pretty and a beautiful tank to match. Be careful with angels tho..some can become aggressive, and downright nasty. Alot of people fall for the "peaceful fish syndrome", the raw truth is that angels are cichlids, and some are extremely aggressive and territorial. Just ask my large female :shifty: ...she cant be put with another angel to save its life. Sometimes, it's better to leave well enough alone, and I have found that it's much better to add small angels together as a group, rather then large/medium angels at different times. Very nice set up and I'm glad you found them!! B)

actually, it looks like he did the right thing and bought a pair of angels. In stores, you will usually see angles swimming together in pairs. You don't just go for ANY two angels in the tank. You for for pairs of two swimming side by side. Much less likely to turn on each other.

Love the fish, love the tank. I kept 2 togther for about 1 and a half years, they were fine but then they just attacked each other, had to rehome one. Not enough space was the problem.

actually, it looks like he did the right thing ...

SHE. ;) Haha.

Thanks for the compliments and for the reminder that yes, angels *are* cichlids even though they're very peaceful to watch. I'm hoping this pair remains peaceful toward eachother, but if there is a problem, one will have to go back to the LFS. So far so good, but I will keep an eye on things as they grow!

i have 5 in my tank (looking for anothe black angel to replace one that died a few weks ago) and the only time they show any aggression is when they try breeding then they become very teritorial

One more picture I snapped this morning. They're starting to get a little less shy now so it's easier to get pictures. :)

love your setup and your angels are very nice. and as said befor watch out if thair a breeding pair as thay will attack anything that goes near the eggs as mines just layed eggs and the angels kept on going for my croys.

Lovely Angels in a lovely tank!

By far my favourate tropical fish... ...so much character.... ...my male begs (swimming back and fourth quickly) at the front of the tank when he see's me enter the room as he knows where the food comes from... ...he ignores everyone else!

I also have a pair and they do breed like crazy and can then get agressive.... ....I lused to let nature take it's course (the fry get eaten as it is a community tank) but now I pull the eggs other wise I never see my other fish as the Angels chase them away.... ...when they are not breeding they are totally placid with my other fish!

haha! my bad. Sorry "ma'dam"

Anyways, great tank set up. Probably what i'm looking for if i go the Angel way with my 40.

I'll get some killer blue shrimp that eats fish as big as tetra/smaller.
I'll get a few giant green cory.
I'll get a single pair of angel
If i can;t bring myself to return the common/sailfin plec to My LFS, He'll be in.

My dragon goby will go in.... should be no bother to any of the above, and I can't really get him in brackish either way, unless i made that tank just for him.... which would be near impossible. The instant i enter the store, my finger pulls the trigger. The only brackish fish besides him around here are bumble bee gobies and puffer, and puffers would eat the bumble bee, and perhaps get the guts to hurt my dragon goby.....

so yeah.... :X

But i'm out of ideas other than that..... what are you gonna put with your pair?

I only have one angelfish now - I used to have 2 but it got murdered by some evil jewels. They used to get on fine, but the one I have left used to be a bit of a bully to other fish. Now it is on it's own it is a complete wimp...
