My Fire Eels Breathing Really Diff Then Normal

i just recently got a fire eel he is about 8" he wouldent eat the freeze dried blood worms i was tould ot get him then i went back ot the pet store and tould them he wouldent eat them so they tould me to try and give him live earth worms so i did he eat it no problem right out of my hand then about 15 20 mins later he started breathing faster then normal my girl friend was nevrves for him so she got me a lil nervis so im just asking if its normal for that or what if any one can give me info or there opinons

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Do you use chemicals in the garden. Did you wash the earth worms before you fed them.
Check his gills to see if there pale with excess mucas or red and inflamed.
Any excess mucas on the fish body.
Does he flick and rub.
Does he look bloated.
 
well its been 24 hours now and he seems to be doing fine breathing better hes in a 55g tank with one other fish and yes i rinsed the worms off be for i gave it to him i dont use chemicals and his gills are normal
 
Before you feed the earth worms again I would check in tropical discussion if you are feeding them right.
There a thread over there at the moment on earthworms.
Inchworm says it best to freeze them.
Glad he's back to his normal self.
