So I was thinking kind of make my own canister filter, not a sump. My idea is to have 1 -3 reactors with whatever media I choose to put in them, like one reactor will have a layer of filter pads, and then a layer of carbon, and that reactor will be connected to another filled with bio-balls or another media for biological filtration. I would have the pump placed under the tank to pump water from the tank to the reactors, and from the water pressure the water will flow from the last reactor back into the tank.

So basically: Aquarium > Pump > Reactor 1 > Reactor 2 > Co2 reactor of some type > Tank.

And if its not enough I could place a second pump between reactor 2 and the Co2 reactor.

The setup would cost less than 100 dollars, and i'm afraid of canisters atm because every single one i've looked at has reported bad leaks. If I do get one it'll be a eheim classic, but wouldn't my setup be way more efficient given the seemingly more powerful and customizable filtration? The only thing i'd need to do is make sure I keep the water pressure at a safe level, and with 2 pumps the pressure would most likely be equalized.

Its a 29 gallon freshwater planted.
