I just finished cleaning the tank, and im not sure what happened, but the filter just stopped working!! It's now 10:45pm, and I won't be able to get to the store till tomorrow evening, potentially... will my fish be ok with no filtration???????? What can I do to make them more comfortable??? Thanks for your advice!

What brand/model of filter? If you keep the media wet in tank water it will help prevent a mini cycle. Don't feed them until you get a new filter tomorrow if you can't get this one running.

It's a Whisper Power Filter... thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to try to get to the store before work tomorrow... but I would be so upset if I woke up and my fish had gotten sick because of faulty equipment!!!!

Probably just a stuck impeller. Remove the filter from the tank. Remove the media & keep it wet in tank water. Remove the intake tube, there is a small propeller looking gizmo under the intake tube. Carefully remove the impeller, rinse it & the area it fits in, tap water is fine for this. Replace the impeller & intake tube. I usually plug a filter in momentarily at this point to make sure it works. If the impeller spins, replace the media, hang it back on the tank, & fill it with a cup of tank water. Plug it in, it should work. If not, it probably has a bad motor.

thank you so much, i will try that!!! wish me luck!

It worked!!! You have no idea how appreciative I am of your help... I definately was in a panic and would have ended up buying a whole new filter tomorrow meanwhile putting my fish at risk!!!

Thanks a million!!!

Glad I could help you & your fish. Every power filter I've seen has only a few moving parts, they put them on one side or the other, or on larger ones in the middle. If you ever take apart a different brand you'll see how that is.
