My Filter Is Supposed To Sit Like This, Right?

Hello all,

I recently (as in, today) bought myself a 60L tank after much research. The ornaments I want for my tank are only available online, so I'm sitting here waiting for them to arrive while resisting the urge to go out and buy gravel and plants..

I've taken the filter and heater that came with the tank out of their packaging and fixed them to my tank so I can make sure they're all in one piece and as they should be.

I suspect this is quite a novice question to be honest, but I'd rather check and make a fool of myself than not check and get electrocuted!

I've attached a photo of my filter below. I think I've attached it correctly as per the instructions (though they're not very clear). As I hope you can see, the electrical cable attached to the main motor actually hangs down a good few inches into the tank. I just want to make sure that this is how it's supposed to go and that it's safe to fill water above this level?

Thanks in advance for your help guys, I'm looking forward to spending much more time on this forum :)

Hi, I'm looking to get a 60L tank as well so was just wondering what tank did you get and what you think of it?

Mine is a Marina Style 60, which I bought at Pets at Home. It cost me £99 and came with a filter, heater and a few other assorted bits. The filter is an external one and I may replace it later on with an internal one, but I guess I'll see how it goes. I've not got anything in it apart from water yet (waiting for my ornaments and stuff to arrive from online so filled it with water to make sure it's all watertight and to test out the heater). I suspect it's not the greatest tank in the world, but the day before I was about to pay £80 for a 40L one so I'm very happy with the price I got with this one. A more experienced fish enthusiast might be able to find fault with it but I feel it's a good entry level tank at a reasonable price.
