hello everyone, well my female platys opening ever since i have had her, which is about 11 months now has been white and sticking out sort of.
Does anybody know what this is, i am just curious really.

I'm not understanding your sentence. White dots on a fish, like grains of salt are likely to be ich. If it looks fuzzy, you're looking at fungus. If the scales look they they are pulling away from the fish and looking like a pine cone, you're looking at dropsy. Can you explain better what you are seeing?

sorry i was a bit brief.
well the fishes vent were she has babies poos etc, well thats what i mean it has been white and pertruding since i have had her.
i am just curious to see what it is.
is that any better?

Mine do these right before they give birth, will upload a picture and you can tell me if it looks like that. Could also be about ready to poo. Is she fat ?/

See the white dot where the opening is? This was about 20 minutes before she gave birth.

yes it looks exactly like that, but it seems to stick out more on my platy because she is black and the dot is white.
however she has had it ever since i brought her about 11 months ago.
i wonder what it could be, a big thanks for the picture though and it does look exactly like that, but she has had it since ive had her. :S
by the way shes not fat at all she is quite skinny.

Hmm, anything appear to be wrong? I know it sticks out when they poo and platies poo constantly when they're stressed but doesn't seem like she'd be stressed for 11 months. I'll try to find out what it could be. Maybe a genetic disorder or maybe it's natural. Is it ever gone, like right after she finishes pooing?

Took a look on google, said it can happen when they're ready to breed? Do you have a male in the tank?

nope it never goes, its stayed for ages.
that would be a great help if you could find out what it could be.
thanks :good:

with some male platys they either flare up, dance or change to a brighter colour when ready for breeding, females on the other hand will become either totally nuts, hide, flirt and yes produce this area that swells or protrudes from this and looks white, an older platy will also seem to have this more often if shes had countless amounts of fry in the past,

yep, she has been flirting a bit lately and following him around, but hes not interested.
anyway it cant be that she is old or that she has had fry because she has never had either.
the male goes near here and she swims off, the female goes by the male he flinches.
anyway she does swim by him and rub against hime sooooo, whats happening? :sly:

it sound to me that they are indeed mating, you might not actually see the breeding bit but if shes showing interest and he's showing interest but not at the same time, chances are they have already bred this happens quite often when you dont actually see the act itself.

wow i really do hope so, good news then. :hyper:
thanks for all of your hep modaz and everyone. :good:
i cant wait just wait for 2 weeks and see if she is showing. :D
IM SO EXCITED! :)
