Just changed my tank about a bit (put new gravel in/cleaned it throughly but kept atleast 1/2 original tank water) and my 2 boy pufs look very unhappy. They are normally very good eaters, but they don't seem interested at all in food (even snails) and are just hanging about the back of the tank..

I have done a water test and all seems fine.. does anyone have any suggestions? I thought that maybe they were just getting used to their new surroundings but i am not so sure.. My girl puf seems fine (eating and looking healthy) if perhaps a little more hyperactive than normal..

Any help would be much appreciated.

Disturbing the old gravel could release a harmful gas that is making them unhappy. DO another water change of about 20%.

How much of the gravel have you changed all of it and why?

i changed the gravel as i didn't like the stuff i had. It was much to big in the tank so i changed to the very small pea gravel (i was going to go for a flourite substrate but decided against it for now as my plants are doing well without the added helping hand.)

Ok i will do a water change asap and see if that helps. Thanks for the advice. (i am guessing that this 'gas' wouldn't have been detected by a water test..??)

Good luck.

nope but its unlikely you would get anearobic gases in gravel, that is generally in sand based tanks due to a build up of waste and stagnant air getting stuck with nowhere to escape.
