That depends on the lighting. Sorry, remind me what your lighting level is again?

I don't actually know what watt the lamp is, and it doesnt say, all it ses on the tube is Arcardia FO 15-(18") plant growth lamp, and the tank is 20UK gallons.

18" is arcadias are 15w so you won't see your plants pearling unless you get an extra tube to make 30w which will give you 1.5WPG which still may not be enough

Well done on making the DIY unit - it took me ages to get the lid sealed properly!

I run 2 DIY units like yours into my 20 gal via my external filter uptake pipe and I have 50W and STILL I have very little pearling at all! The plants all grow well but I do have trouble getting a carpet going. You will have to up your lighting I think to get the effects that your after.

By the way, that DIY bottle looks very full to me. You may have to watch that it doesn't leak yeast mix into your tank. In a 2litre bottle I add 1 pint of sugar to 1 pint of water with 1/2 tsp of yeast. Fills it up about halfway.

Good luck.

Well..... came home today and as you said the mixture leaked into my tank  , but thats sorted now, and ive reduced the amount of water in the mix.
We all have mistakes :shifty:

btw, my plants look like they are pearling?

Sorry about the leak, what a shame. You've probably already done so but make sure you do plenty of water changes to get rid of the yeast mix from your tank.

Wow! You got them to pearl, that's great, wish I could achieve the same. What ones are pearling? - I can only get my hydrophilla to do it so far.

The wisteria and vallis, i was quite supprised, as some people on the forum said they wouldn't unless i had more lighting.

I'm thinking about do this very same set up for my 125L tank, read up on it. But I've noticed you have your CO2 going straight through to your filter without a difuser. Now here's the silly questions : do you need a difuser or are you using one thats not shown in your pics??

Also is that little blue device joining the two pipes a one way valve? How do you regulate how many bubbles are produced?? and if I did the same mix, but put it into a 5L bottle (for safety reasons eg. stop it going up into the tank) would this be acceptable??

Im quite new to this CO2 business too, but what i have read is that a diffuser is to disperse the co2 bubbles into and around the tank, you can buy a ladder or a ceramic glass diffuser which work well, but basically my filter is doing the same thing as the bought diffusers. Most people buy the ceramic glass diffusers because they work the best.

And yes that is a one way valve to stop the tank waterf lowing inot the CO2 bottle. I dont reduce the amount of bubbles, i just let the CO2 create as many as it can.
A 5L bottle would be fine, you could probably double the amount of mix that i use, therefor having C02 running for longer.

pm me if you want any more help
