So i have a 10 gallon divided tank with a filter, the problem is it really on filters one side, the dividers i have in the tank have a bunch of holes in it to let water flow through but not enough for the filter to effectivel filter the other side, would it be acceptable to maybe cut a few slits in it to promote water flow, i just dont want my bettas getting to eachother..

Uhhh, is it a problem with the intake or the water output? I'm guessing you mean the filter intake is just getting it from one side??? Alot of filters are setup with the intake on one end and the output at the other, so I wouldn't think that would be a problem. Are you sure?

You could cut teeth into the baffles. They do this in my lfs (a VERY good store) and they have plenty of flow and filtration running with a canister.

I would not be using that type of filter for betta's anyway. I would much rather use 2 air-driven sponge filters, (as below) one in each section.
