Fish Crazy
My molly has amazed me lately. As I've mentioned, I lost a few in the past few months to what looked like swim bladder disease. They both ended up weakly breathing--laying on their backs..
But this gal is amazing me! She is like this little acrobat! Even if she gets thrown off her path a bit or ends up on her back while chasing her boyfriend/brother? around, she uses her tail and her fins? (up front) to right herself--to flip herself over!! I've never seen anything like it. She has a strong life force!!
I have tried everything to help her. She simply wouldn't eat any cooked peas (which I thought would help if she was constipated) so, as hard as it was, yesterday, I didn't feed her and her bro and our silly catfish most of the day and then gave them lots of crushed peas--I think she might have taken a small bite! And it might have been my imagination, but today she seemed like she was a little bit more stable in her swimming.
They are in a 10 gallon tank. I constantly tested the water--first with the dipsticks and then with the whole testing kit (like being back in high school lab)! And all the stats were normal. Only the ph was a little low like 6.6--so I put a little ph up in. And, for all who mentioned it a a few weeks ago, my nitrates and nitrites were just fine--so I assume that that means my ammonia level is down.
I'd love to hear any pointers or other stories about brave, hearty fish!
Happy summer to many of us in world!
Warmly,
Wendy
