My Dad Decided To Surprise Me

Ok, my dad came home and surprised me with 2 blood parrots, im not sure if they are dyed, i really dont know much about them, one is black and one is orange. In my tank I have 6 neon tetras and 6 black neon tetras, plus more. Its a 75 gallon. Is there any way my neons have a chance to live? The pet store is closed, and all my other tanks were just put away to storage. Im worried ill wake up tomorrow to a lot of missing fish.

Depends how big they are? They have very small mouths compared to their body size so if they are small i'd think they'd be ok.

Well from what i read, their max size is about 6-10 inches, sooooo I guess itll be a problem when they get bigger

About 9-10" yeah, you have plenty of time to rehome them before then though. How big are they ATM?

id say about 2.5 inches including fins

They won't eat the neons yet as long as the neons are farily big.

well i took a really crappy video of the fish, my camera is at my friends house so i had to use my sisters. Oh and she was complaining to me so i answered her in a really snotty way, didnt realize her camera had a mic. Btw, yes those are dyed tetras in the background, i bought them 3 or so years ago as my first fish, not knowing they were dyed, i get flamed enough for it so please don't. thank yaaaaa

Those are nice parrots. They aren't dyed. But your ram doesn't seem to like him very much!

From what I understand, Blood Parrot Cichlids are capable of aggression, but because of the mouth mutation, they are incapable of causing any real damage.

I used to have two, but one starved to death because he... forgot how to eat. The poor guy would run after food, but not be able to suck it up. I even tried to target feed him by placing a pippette near his face. It didn't work.

Oh they can cause real damage, just not as much as a fish with a normal mouth

Very cute though, I had four up till a couple of weeks ago. Personalities are fabulous

me too , i didnt think black bp's are natural

They can change colour but yeah I have a one that went from orange to mainly black back to orange. I've never seen a solid black one though. Maybe dyed.

Oh, his tail is starting to get orange, he seems to be the head fish when it comes to the pair, poor little orange guy gets bossed around and tends to follow him everywhere, but so far so good, no neons missing, the bps are getting their food without trouble, and they have established their own territory
