Hello,

I am MickeyMousePlaty216 or Mickey216. I am very interested in my Mickey Mouse Platies.
I bought them about one month and maybe two weeks ago at petsmart. I have three females and one male.
I have them in a 55 gallon tank with my guppies. The tanks has lots of hornwort and fake plants inside perfect for fry.
I also have a fry tank which is ten gallons. I have a bit of a problem.

My guppies breed like crazy and I always find guppy fry in my tank. I have NEVER seen my male platy interested in
my female platies. He never chases them around the tank. He will not pay any attention to them and he chases them
away all the time. I want them to breed them so Badly but all he wants to do is eat and swim around. What is wrong with him really?

I really think one of my mickey mouse platy female is pregnant. Her stomach got much bigger and I have seen 3 black dots inside her gravid area. I think she maybe be 2 weeks pregnant but I don't know for sure. Also He and one of the other female platys attacks her and chases her away all the time why do they do that? They always do that she always got to hide and she is one of the biggest fish i have. I really hope she is pregnant Please answer my questions thank you

if you could post a photo it would help.

It sounds like it! Father in you might notice a white ball-shape marking. Hope all goes well! Also if your male is chasing your female more often that not, that means hes trying to breed. its a good thing you got a handful of female platys to keep him buisy. Hope this helps!

3 females to one male? Nice! :good:
My male doesn't actively chase my females most of the time, yet 2 are pregnant. Hmmmm.
Post pics also. I have 2 mickey mouse platys (and 2 red wag).

Thanks for the help

I have notice a with little white ball its been then for a couple of days now.
what does that mean is she ready to give birth.

I think she is then! Mine wasn't as big as i thought shed be, but enough to be tearing at the seams. I seporated her into a different tank, where she could be alone, and she gave birth within 12 hrs! Although, it was a week after i noticed the white marking.

I dont think she is ready to give birth.
she does not look that big, they say she sould look like shes going to explode.
her gravid spots is getting darker but she is still small and she barely pokes out.
I personally thinks she stills has a way to go but I can be wrong.
Also what does tearing at the steams mean?

also when my male chases her he attomactically turns back around.
he does not look like he trying to mate with her but I could be wrong
Do MM platies have a dominance structure becuase the other female in the tank
chases her all the time and picks on her?

Thats a lot of questions! lol! ok, for her i would wait a week or so.
"Tearing at the seams" means fat, i just fancyed up the sentence :D.
What Im trying to say now, is that the female will not always be the fatest thing in the world before she gives birth, mine was quite compact and gave birth to around 6-10. (her fist batch, i think)
the male doesn't know anybetter! :] Did you buy her and find her pregnant? or is one of you males the father? If its not that male, then he will chase her and follow her, waiting for the girl to give birth so he can gobble up the babies. :'[ very sad, i know. To them it makes sence tho, because hes making space for his babies.(this sadly just happened to me, i thought my black molly had another week to go, but while i was at school she gave birth, and was very skinny when i got home. i didn't find any surviving fry, but people still say theres hope that there still hiding in the gravel) Idk what it will be like if they are his...
Color of the platies does not matter, their behivior is all the same. :) That chasing female might be trying to get more food or something.... im not sure

Can you post a pic of the pregnant one? It might help :]]]

I had notice yesterday that my female white dot had opened
I have read on this forum that it is called the birthing tube.
so I new from that point she would give birth tonight.
I took a goldfish bowl and put gravel and fake plants at the bottom
I also put live plants at the top.
when i woke up the morning she was as skinny as a skipping rock.
I put her back in the main tank, she was so happy to be back home.
I didn't see any fry so I took everything out the bowl and discovered over 20 fry
only one had died but the rest are still alive I could not believe my luck and I was so happy.
my female did such a good job and I am very proud of her.

also she and the male in my tank has been racing up and down the side of the tank
why is they doing this?

Congrads on the fry!!! lucky on the 20, all i got so far is 7 and 13!!! poopy...
idk about the weaird behavior, might just be a habit....

He is chasing her up and down the aquarium because she is no longer pregnant and he is wanting to breed her. You won't be able to keep the fry in a fish bowl as they will die. You will need to move them to a 10 gallon tank or bigger so that they can grow properly and you will need to make sure your water parameters are good as fry are very sensitive to changes in water such as nitrites, nitrates and ammonia. It has to be kept up and you need to watch that fish bowl since you said you just set it up it is not cycled and that is definitely not good for the fry.

YAY! Congrats on all the fry!
Yes. Male platys will mate with any color platy from my experience. Right now I'm pretty sure my red wag platy is pregnant from my Mickey Mouse platy.:)

I counted all the fry she really had twenty-five but one died.
Also my second MM platy female is pregnant she has about a week

I also think that my marigold already had babies with my MM platy male
becuase the babies are a dark orange/red color with the MM image on their tails
but some look like the mom also.
