I have a fab pair of cons who seem very happy but something is not right.

they have laid 2 very good batches of eggs over the last 3 weeks. 1 lot on the filter and the last lot on sunday or monday underneath some bog wood.

the problem is that the eggs always turn white and do not hatch. the parents defend them and the female spends all day fanning them as expected, but nothing :/

what could be the problem and what can i do.

don't want to give up on them but i am thinking about trying other fish....... restore my faith :-(

ps posted pics of fish and latest eggs under 'members aquariums and fish'. only place i could work out how to post pics.

Run some carbon in your tank filter just to get rid of any nasties.
Thats all i can think of.

Ok, I just thought of sumthing, maybe the eggs are being fertilized properly, but they are getting fungus growing on them which kills the eggs ?

You can get a special anti fungal stuff to put in the water, but im not sure if you can use it with the fish in it, just the eggs,

one is called methylene blue, this make the water dark blue, but this is only for hatching the eggs away from the parents.

I think interpet may have something like this.

Wait for others to backup what im saying

not saying it is this but it could be bad water quality.

could be the first times theyve tried too and the male could be a bit clumsy. im sure theyll get it right.

atleast there in a pit this time lol.

I got rid of all the fury eggs about 2 hours ago. they have already started digging out the upside down plant pot. they must really like each other

I have a question for you. What are you doing fo rthem? Anything special? Mine just keep dying. they last 2-4 weeks, then die. I feed them enough and everything. about 40% water changes once every 2 weeks and everything. Anything added to their water? What am I doing wrong? And I do happen to know white is the wrong color for eggs. unfertalized. yellow is good.

Do you mean the fry are dieing ? or the convict pairs keep dieing, th reason I ask is that this is a thread wondering why eggs dont hatch, so the fry dont even live yet !

 good point.

if its the pairs that die then im going back to my water quality issue.

and if the parents cant survive then the fry wont!

Yep deee dooo :good:

in my case it is the fry that are the problem. the cons are great, wonderful colours, feed well, and seem to be nesting all the time. the eggs go white then fuzzy/fluffy. i am hoping for a 3rd time lucky.

:D
