My Cons Are Digging

When convicts start digging does it mean they are getting ready to breed?

Digging can mean a variety of things when talking about cichlids. What size is your tank? How many convicts do you have, and what is the male to female ratio?

You should be able to tell if a pair has formed they will swim together and protect a single territory. Usually in that territory, they will fan and clean a flat surface (slate, clay pot... etc) and begin digging a pit. The clean flat surface will be for laying the eggs and the pit will be to keep the wigglers in until they grow and can begin venturing away from the parents.
