I have in my tank, a bristle nose and a talking catfish. I noticed this morning that the bristle nose seemed to be wedged in a cannon in my tank. I came home tonight and the bristle nose has not moved and now, I have spotted he is head to head in the cannon, with my talking catfish.

Neither seem to want to come out and the bristle nose is very still, showing signs of stress. I suspect he is stuck and the talking catfish is in his way but wont budge to let him out.

Please help, I am concerned that the bristle has got himself stuck and cant back out, the talking catfish rarely comes out or moves anyway.

Can and do fish swim backwards to get out of tight spots!! and what can anyone suggest other than leave well alone and see what happens?????

(I've killed the lights none the less and put some algae wafers in, to tempt feeding......)

Struggling in the UK!!!!!!

You may have to result to physically pulling one pout and then pushing the other one out.
try picking the cannon up and turn it up on one up so one maybe able to slide out.

Good luck

We have tried that, being sucker mouthed, I suspect they both immediately attached themselves to the inside of the cannon. At the moment, I have put a towel over the tank to blank out the lights in our room and am hoping that the food will attract them........
but any further comments would be helpful too.

Ta for the prompt response........

Is it possible to tip them out of the cannon.

nope. I think they are head to head, or side by side attached to the cannon.....I confess I even removed the cannon from the water to see if that made them panic or something but they just didnt budge. They are both alive and breathing.....the bristle nose has his tail dangling out the bottom of the cannon, the other one is hidden fully inside the tank, he's the one in the way and with the possibility of backing out. I think the bristle nose's head is too big to reverse the way he obviously entered....

little tykes are really concerning me now......

You will have to rub some vaseline inside the cannon it will help slide them out, but best to do this outside the tank.
Can you try and pull the tail gently to see if that frees him.

You can tell I am panicking! tried that straight away, but he waggles it like mad and moves further in. Thats why I dont want to do anything hasty like that.......

part of me is hoping that tomorrow morning, they will both have taken up residence elsewhere in the tank and I will feel like an idiot reading this back tomorrow!!

If one is stressed need to get him out.
Do you have any vaseline.

I think so....... but how long will they be ok outside the water, while I try to get the stuff on the cannon? I have no idea.

Could do it in a bucket of tank water.

ok I will give it a go....... will reply tomorrow and let you know how we get on!

Thanks Wilder, you have calmed me down.. :flowers:

Ok, good luck.

try not to pull the bristlenose dont they have spikes they put up? I'd advise pushing him thru

All ok!!!!!!!!!

We left them alone, in the dark and at 6am I came down with my torch........and there they both were, swimming around happy as fish are, I guess!!
