my boxer shrimp molted yesterday evening yipeee..

almost got a fright that i suddenly had 2 they look identical

Lol, yeah, I was even expecting my shrimp to molt, and it still freaked me out.

I saw these at my LFS the other day and thought they looked pretty cool. What are they like to keep? Agressive to other inverts?

I didnt bother to ask the guy in the LFS about them as I had just heard him advising someone who was obviously new to marine tanks to "just float it for 10 minutes and put it in" when the guy was buying a 'nem (the guy buying it had just asked if hermit crabs would clean the sand....). Anyway they looked cool but they also looked like they might make a snack of any invert they could get hold of. :)

they are intolorent to triggers and wrasses and should only be bought as a true mated pair or on there own as they fight (maybe)

they could nip coral or anenome's to feed on the food the nem has eaten!!

Boxing shrimps

I recommend buying with caution!

I really liked them and thought about it and I was told to not bother by my lfs if I kept nems or had other cleaner shrimps or hermit crabs!!!

While they may attack smaller shrimp in an attempt to establish dominance (and are incompatible with arrow crabs), they rarely attack anything else. They simply do not have the technique to kill hermit crabs.

If they are ripping open coral to feed on it's food stores, I think this may be saying something about the keeper. Such as, "it was so hungry that it had to tear open a coral". They will feed on suspended matter above all else (like puffers and triggers), so make sure it is getting enough of this.

As to being "intolerant to triggers and wrasses", this really depends on the species. Coral banded shrimps are highly capable of defending themselves (any aquarist who has been pinched by one while cleaning a tank will realize this). I once kept one with three juvenile foot-long Gymnothorax morays for some time, and the morays never touched it. This was after they annihilated my hawkfish and mollies.

Certainly the "pelagic" triggerfishes wouldn't attack a Stenopus, and even the "benthic" triggers and large wrasses would have a hell of a time doing so. In addition, Stenopus are known cleaners, so this would grant them further immunity. I would expect coral banded shrimps to be fairly high on the "compatibility rating".

havnt had any problems with my as well, he usually cliff hangs all around the liverock,he sumtimes climbs over the nem but doesnt do anyhting else, i also have to feather duster worms wich he doesnt touch..
