As you can see from the pics below, the office tank is very boring. The snail keeps eating the plants :/

I'd like to make it pretty but don't know what to do. Your suggestions and advice are welcome!

I agree with the wood, that would look nice. I'd also say that some tall plants in the back and maybe a few smaller ones in front would look great. Plastic or silk would work, since your snail seems hungry!

:sly: To me no fish tank is boring
I have that same background , for like the last ten years .[ my son hates it ]

Maybe we should get new backgrounds [ you and I that is ] that have pictures of densely planted aquriums , with rocks and driftwood .

Maybe you could put some rocks , driftwood or some kind of decorative stone either natural or man made .

You have 2 types of sword plants and a java fern , is that right ?
Until they grow taller maybe you could get some vallisnera [ spelling ] or something else that grows taller .

Also maybe a school of fish that will cohabitate with fish you already have , what fish do you have in there anyway ?

When I started there were no other replies , I type soooooooooooo slooooow . :dunno:

Yes, right now we have some swords and that thing that looks like a java fern  It was just a bunch of leaves binded together when my boss brought it in. As you can see, the snail is devouring it rapidly.

I definately would like to add some taller plants. Is there anything else the snail would rather eat besides the plants, say carrot or cucumber?

The other side of that background is of a coral reef. That's why we chose the blue . . .

I don't what other fish to get! We had two dwarf gouramis but both are ill so I removed them. Right now we have:
2 columbian sharks
2 blackskirt tetras
1 marble platty
1 sunset platty
1 swordtail
1 ramshorn snail

I have 2 aztec looking statue things that I removed because they were covered in algae. Maybe I'll put them back in and post most pics. I'm leaving work for the day. Yay!

I agree with Lucky, a new background would be a great start. One with lots of live plants, rocks, gravle. Also, maybe some medium sized river rocks to go with the bog wood. Maybe you want to take out the gravel and replace it with either finer gravel or go with sand. Black or white would liven up the tank a little as a substrate. ;)

Get taller plants - even fake ones. High on the sides and back. Maybe even have stone (near white/off-white) colored gravel. It would reflect the tank light better and make it appear brighter.

Thats all my suggestion A lot more plants..... :D

If anybody has anymore explain them...... :shifty: 8) :shifty:

Hi guys! First I want to thank everyone who made a suggestion. As you can see, I didn't take them all :p

There's a lot of things I'd like to change but I am trying to convince my boss to buy a bigger tank for the columbians. I mentioned it today and he said we'll wait until they get bigger. I said they probably won't get too much bigger because they will be stunted. He didn't really give me a straight answer of yes or no so who knows . . . I'll keep after him :/

Anyway, here are the after pics. I added some decorations and a few plants. Would have liked to added real but the snail munches on 'em. I think it looks a lot better than it did.

So again, Thanks Guys!

i know exactly what i would do to that tank...take out the columbian sharks...far far too small for them..

they really do need to come out of there.

Sorry

sorry...no i didnt.. but i have now.

best thing for them is that they are rehomed though, they really are going to suffer. these fish can grow upto a metre..they really are not suitable for that tank and IMO its cruel to leave them in there..

yes they will be stunted, but they will die pretty quickly if you leave them in that tank..please take them out.

i'm not having a go..so please dont take it that i am.. its a common fish to be misstreated and its usually don to poor advice from lfs's

Gixer, I appreciate your concern and totally agree with you. It's unfortunate that columbians are sold as community fish. The LFS didn't tell my boss they would get so big and eat everyone else. They didn't tell him they would need brackish water as they mature. These are things I found out from TFF. I would like to give my boss an opportunity to do the right thing. If he doesn't, I will eventually take them back to the LFS. I don't want to do it because they probably won't be properly suited there either . . .

I didn't think you were having a go. You are just looking out for the little guys. I respect that.

It looks a billion times better, awesome work. Amazing what a few decorations and fake plants can do, eh??
