Fish Crazy
Today, I bought 11 bettas.
My intention was to buy a new plakat, but I ended up with 10 more than I expected.
Here's what happened.
I went to this new store I found out about through another member here. It was a nice store that was supposed to have some pretty bettas. So I went in and was rather dismayed that all they had were veiltails. I looked through all of them thinking I could find a solid color one or a mustard gas, but couldn't find anything. Then I was asked, "Would you like to see the short tails?" So I said, "Sure."
He goes to this little table and reaches into this little slot. My first thought was, "Oh, these probably are the ones not kept in the open." ... until I saw what he pulled out. It was a shopping bag filled with smaller baggies of plakat bettas. There were about 30 of them in all. The bags must have had less than an inch of water and some betta bags were full of filth and dirt. I don't know how I can express just how small these bags were. I could fit at least 4 into my hip pocket. I thought, "my God; I've got to save these guys." I opened my wallet and found I had enough to buy 11 of them. I picked up the ones that seemed to be the least comfortable and brought them home and quickly put them into larger 1 gallon bowls.
Most of them are gorgeous! On the up and up, I also found I had picked up two double tails in my frantic search. They aren't swimming much, I guess they aren't too used to such a big space yet, but at least they're opening up their fins.
Was it the right thing to go and get so many? Has anyone ever done anything like this before?
