I would like to be able to educate people in my local area about the needs of betta fish because I see them kept in bowls and vases that are just too small far too often. Not to mention they don't have filters or heaters. I used to be one of those too until I realised how bad it was for the fish and I feel so ashamed of the bettas I have kept in poor conditions in the past that all died prematurely. In order to be able to educate others, I feel that it is only right to make sure I am doing everything right too. I have attached an image below of his tank. Please feel free to critic it and let me know what I can do better. His name is Neptune or Neppy for short. I am planning on upgrading him to a 16gallon once it's not in use and it would be great to know what I can make better so I don't miss anything when putting his next tank together.

Please note that the shells in the tank are not snails. Just shells. There is one snail in here but is hiding in the photo.

The tank looks nice! How big is it?
The only thing that I would recommend changing is the light on the ground. Bettas tend to prefer less light, and in the wild, the light would be coming from the top and not from the bottom. I would recommend that you get a light that goes on top of the tank instead of the one you have now.

This one is a 5 gallon. As I said he will eventually have a 16 gallon.
I definitely agree with you on the light I don't usually use this light (just for the photo so you can see better)
My top light stopped working about a month ago but I haven't bothered to get a new one yet because he will be moving into the bigger tank and it gets light enough in that room that he can tell if its day or night so it's not urgent.
Thanks for your comment!

That makes sense. You certainly have a very lucky betta fish!

Beautiful Betta, very colorful tank. Looks like hornwort in the tank but I could be mistaken. I would suggest some floating plants to help shade the Betta, The lighting was my other concern but you have that taken care of. Like the glass bowl on the side of the tank, I was looking at one of those or the smaller version possibly for a future build in one of my tanks.:good:
