my betta has pop eye,his right eye, what can i do?
is there a treatment for it?

I recently had a sailfin molly with extremely bad pop eye - I mean her eye was sticking out and enlarged and encased in a huge blister-like balloon. I really thought she would die. But luckily I had some MYXAZIN indoors, which is used for pop eye - and I was amazed to see how quickly it worked. Within days the blister surrounding her eye had gone, her eye was almost back to normal size and she seemed none the worse for wear. A few days later and she looked normal again and is still doing well.

I posted a comment on the forums saying how impressed I was with the treatment and would definitely recommend it to others.

I've not treated a Betta for it, though, so can't say hand on heart if it works as effectively for them. The sooner you start treating it the better chances of cure and survival, apparently.

Of course, it also depends on what has caused the pop eye in the first place. If it's a secondary bacterial infection of something else then the initial illness will need to be diagnosed and treated, also. Make sure your tank water is in pristine conditions, too.

Can you think of anything that would have caused the pop eye? Was the fish healthy until this? Have you tested your water recently to make sure the stats are ok? Could he have suffered stress from anything. I know that with my molly it was stress-induced from the red tailed shark bullying her.

Hope you manage to cure it.

Regards - Athena

if you can quickly get a good antibacterial med use that asap. if that is not avaiable to you, extreamly clean water, a little tiny bit of aquarium salt and some melifix may help your fish.

oh it also helps if the betta is in a tank that is well heated, well filtered and larger then 2 or 3 gallons.
