My male has built his bubble nest as ive just bought a emerald female halfmoon and shes been conditioning in a floating chamber in the tank, hes been flaring at her every since he realised that she was female (after 1 day).

Problem is that she does not seem interested, I let her out of the floating tank for a while, he seems to chase her around a little bit but she is hiding most of the time.

he's been building his nest for 2 days now. Its almost complete as its behind the heater and the floating chamber so theres no disturbance but its also small and the filter is directly below the next, it might suck up some fry eggs?

Need advice on what to do next as I got the female from ebay, and the breeder (From uk) has told me that another customer's female spawned the day she got it from the same batch)

Only problem is that my male is slightly bigger than the female..... Advice?

you have to condition your betta when it first arrive by feeding it high protein food and clean water for at least a week to get a healthy parents. if the female is ready, she will show vertical lines on her body when flared by the male. and you should swith off the filter immediately if you want to encourage any spawning. it is bad for the bubble nest and hatching fry. Good luck!

Hey, after you 'just' buy a female, you should let her chill out in her own tank for atleast 2 weeks before you start conditioning. She has just come from somewhere else, she will take time adapting to her new tank. Conditioning her straight away for breeding will stress her out.

Everyones fish are different.

Anyways, to breed. I suggest you consult the previous threads. There is alot of info on how to breed fish.

Have you researched at all in breeding bettas? Like temperature, diet, behaviour etc? Dont want to sound offending or anything, but it doesnt sound like you have researched.

Breeding bettas takes time to get right. Success isnt always at the first attempt. Thats extremely rare. I know a top breeder in the UK who had his first successful spawn at the 15th attempt. And now, he breeds atleast 4 betta paors at the one time.

so, i would say, take ypur time and research! :)

Hope that helps.

it's late, so im pretty much gonna copy and paste my answer from elsewhere, just with a few changes.
before you breed bettas, please consider the following points. breeding bettas is nothing like breeding other fish.

the male babies ALL need to be separated when they are a few weeks old because otherwise they can and WILL fight to the death.
do you have 50 or more containers for 50 or more male bettas?
do you have a way to heat all of these containers?
do you have a method of adequate filtration for all of these containers?
do you have homes for the bettas to go to? contrary to popular belief it's difficult to sell them
do you have the time and the dedication to commit to breeding bettas?

just because a fish wants to breed, doesnt mean it should be allowed to

just some things to think about. bettas are amazing fish and they should be taken care of properly :)
