So I’m pretty sure that his fins were shredded due to high nitrate levels however the water is back to normal with several water changes. I’ve also added more plants to try and improve the tank in general.
I don’t know whether it is fin rot or just due to stress.
i’ve given him treatment.
how long does it take for betta fish fins to improve? And is there anymore I can do.
water is cloudy at the moment because I unearthed a few plants. I done a water change just now so hopefully the cloudiness will go.
really hate seeing him like this :(

It's common with the long-finned variety, they are even known to nip at their own fins, to try and reduce the weight dragging them down...not much you can do besides providing clean, fresh water on a regular basis.

It sounds like fin rot. Use tetra all in one tablets. You can get them at Walmart! They are amazing and have saved my fish many many times. You’ll notice a big difference by day 3. Follow the directions carefully
